Freddy Newendyke, better known as Mr. Orange, is the deuteragonist in Quentin Tarantino's 1st film, Reservoir Dogs. An an undercover police officer of the LAPD, Newendyke was sent to infiltrate Joe Cabot's gang of robbers.

He was portrayed by Tim Roth, who also played Pumpkin in Pulp Fiction and Pete Hicox in The Hateful Eight.

Biography[]

Not is much known about Freddy Newandyke except that he is between his late 20s-to-early 30s. Around his years, he joined the Los Angeles Police Department. He is trained for the infiltration by a fellow friend Holdaway. Five months before the diamond heist, Newandyke was introduced to fellow L.A.P.D. officer Marvin Nash, although Newandyke forgot about this.

Meeting the Cabots[]

As part of his undercover assignment, Newandyke has to pretend he is a criminal in order to hang out with a crime boss named Joe Cabot. He impresses Joe and his son, Eddie, with a fictional anecdote about a marijuana deal during the 1986 marijuana drought. Newandyke is assigned by Cabot to take part in an upcoming diamond heist and given the code-name Mr. Orange. He becomes friends with Mr. White, whose real name is Lawrence Dimmick. Newandyke however secretly investigates Dimmick to learn about his previous crimes.

Before the heist[]

On the morning of the diamond heist, Mr. Orange has breakfast with his team at a diner in Los Angeles. In conversation, he brings up the song 'The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia', to which Eddie jovially calls him a "motherfucker". Mr. Orange claims to be convinced by Mr. Pink's anti-tipping policy and tries to take back his dollar, but is not allowed by Eddie. He also rats out Mr Pink as the one who doesn't tip.

Getting wounded[]

When the heist goes wrong, Mr. Orange escapes with Mr. White. They try to make a getaway in Mr. Brown's car, but unfortunately, Mr. Brown is shot in the head and dies shortly after. Mr. Orange then watches Mr White mercilessly gun down two police officers, which greatly unnerves Mr. Orange. He helps Mr. White hijack a car, but is shot in the stomach by the driver, a young woman. Mr. Orange instinctively returns fire and shoots the driver in the chest, killing her. Mr Orange realizes in shock that he has now killed an innocent person. Due to the severity of his wound, Mr. Orange starts screaming that he is going to die. Mr. White reassures him that he is going to be fine, and that once they get to the warehouse, Joe will phone for a doctor for him. Mr. White even breaks the rule about not revealing any personal information, and tells Mr. Orange his first name. From then on, Mr. Orange called Mr. White 'Larry'.

At the warehouse[]

When in the warehouse, Mr. White places Mr Orange on a ramp and tries to calm him down. Mr. Orange appreciates what Mr. White is doing for him, but he begges the latter to take him to a hospital. Mr. White is trying to think about this, when Mr. Pink burst in, complaining that they had been set up. Mr Pink is shocked at Mr. Orange's wound. Mr. Orange then passes out, but is still alive. Mr. White and Mr. Pink argues over whether to take Mr. Orange to a hospital. Mr. Pink is against the idea, as Mr. White had told Mr. Orange about himself. They ends up fighting, but are interrupted by Mr. Blonde.

Mr. Orage is unconscious for a while, until he sees Marvin Nash about to get burned alive by Mr. Blonde after being sadistically tortured by the robber. As Nash is a fellow police officer, Mr Orange shots Mr. Blonde repeatedly and then reveals to Nash that he is a cop. He tells his colleague that they had to wait on Joe Cabot arriving before the police enter. Nash is upset about losing his ear, but Mr. Orange screams at him that he is dying.

A short while later, Eddie returns with Mr. White and Mr. Pink and finds Mr. Blonde shot dead. Mr. Orange tries to convince Eddie that Mr. Blonde's intention was to kill him as well as Nash, and then kill him alongside Mr. White and Mr. Pink when they arrived and escape with the diamonds. Mr. White is convinced as he hated Mr. Blonde, but Eddie did not believe his story as Mr. Blonde had been fiercely loyal before. Joe then arrives, telling Eddie that Mr. Orange was the man who set them up. Mr. White tries to reason with Joe, but Joe aimes his gun at Mr Orange, with the intention of killing him. Mr White is caught up in a Mexican standoff between himself, Joe, and Eddie. Mr. Orange is finally shot in the shoulder by Joe, but Mr. White kills Joe and Eddie while Mr Pink escapes with the diamonds before getting arrested by the cops outside the warehouse.

Death[]

Having seen Mr. White sacrifice everything for the sake of protecting him, Mr. Orange felt he had to tell Mr White the truth. Since Joe was dead, Mr. Orange's mission is over, so he wouldn't have forsaken his duty as a police officer. Mr. White is devastated at hearing this, and puts his gun to Mr. Orange's head while Mr. Orange apologizes. The police storm the warehouse and order Mr. White to drop his gun, but he kills Mr. Orange, and the police shoot him dead.

Other appearances[]

Mr. Orange also appears in the 2006 video game adaption of the same name, however, he only serves as a playable character in the tutorial mission in which the player practices how to shoot and duck and Mr. Orange is equipped with a paint gun. He plays a role in one of the missions in which the player controls Mr. White and must get a shot Mr. Orange to the warehouse before he passes out from blood loss.

Like the rest of the cast members (except Michael Madsen who plays Mr. Blonde) Tim Roth didn't reprise his role as Mr. Orange for the game, nor does the character's appearance have any resemblance to the actor.

His role in the video game is taken by Scott Menville.
